Kea's Ark looms over the parking lot of the Humanity Baptist Church, on a high hill in the Central Ward. The sky gapes through the gray wood of its unfinished hull. The cage of ribs curves up from the keel, and the bowsprit thrusts forward like a narwhal's tusk. Inside, the air smells like a cellar of old books and the passageways have the cheerful gloom of a barn. It's a clamber on ladders and springy planks to the canopy over the forward well deck, then a scramble up to the tar-papered roof of the pilot house where a 48-star flag snaps in a March wind. Water glimmers on the eastern horizon.
