Fallon threw races to make money for crooked betting syndicate, court told

KIEREN Fallon exchanged the bright silks of a champion jockey for the sombre suit of the accused yesterday, as the six-times British champion stepped into the dock at the Old Bailey to stand trial accused of taking part in a race-fixing scam.

The court heard he was part of a complicated plot to throw races to make money for a crooked betting syndicate. Miles Rodgers, a businessman, allegedly bet GBP 2.12 million on various internet accounts that 27 horses, ridden by Fallon and two other jockeys, would lose.

The businessman had been tipped off by the riders just before the various races ...
