Further strike action looms after walkout by capital's council staff

FURTHER strike action looks likely after a 24-hour day of action
by council workers shut down more than 60 schools, nurseries and day
centres in Edinburgh yesterday.
The strike by thousands of Unison workers was over threatened cuts
of up to GBP 10 million from the council budget and possible
redundancies imposed by the Lib Dem-SNP coalition.
Hundreds of strikers were joined by anti-schools closures
protesters at a rally outside the City Chambers prior to a meeting to
discuss the budget.
