Book Festival Review: William Dalrymple

THERE could be no one better than William Dalrymple to commence
one the key strands of this year's Book Festival: India. In recent
years, his writing has illuminated near-forgotten chapters of that
country's history and explored their remarkable relevance to
contemporary events, and this lecture was no exception.
As well as the much publicised 60th anniversary of the Partition
of India, 2007 is the 150th anniversary of the siege of Dehli, an
event which, Dalrymple argues, was just as important in future
