Mallya to sign GBP 600m deal to buy W&M

VIJAY Mallya, the flamboyant Indian businessman who is the
controlling shareholder in United Breweries (UB), India's biggest
brewer, will announce this morning at a Glasgow press conference that
he has bought Scottish whisky producer Whyte & Mackay (W&M).
Sources believe the price will be about GBP 600 million and the
deal's details will be presented by Mallya and Vivian Imerman, the
South African-born majority owner of W&M.
Mallya and officials at W&M have been in talks for months over the
possible sale, with price thought to have been the sticking point.
