Election 2007: Salmond challenges Labour's 'divine right' to rule Scotland

LABOUR has no "divine right" to govern Scotland, Alex Salmond, the SNP leader, declared yesterday as Tony Blair and Jack McConnell launched a final assault on the Nationalists with apocalyptic warnings over the dangers of independence.

Mr Salmond yesterday set out the case for breaking Labour's half- century domination of Scottish politics.

Speaking before Mr Blair and Mr McConnell's joint assault on the SNP, Mr Salmond pointed out that in the last 50 years, Labour had won every national election in Scotland.
