IF YOU'RE intending to vote in the Scottish Parliament elections - and I hope you are - here's a piece of advice: don't leave the engine running. This is no X-me-quick and get back home because the dinner's in the oven. Even reading the ballot paper is going to take a while.

Judging by some of the things you might find there, you'd be well advised to add in extra time for a quiet chuckle. To the usual list has been added the Publicans (pub landlords rather than abbreviated Republicans), the Scottish Jacobite Party (don't mention Culloden), the Nine Per Cent Growth-ers, the Against Crooked ...
