Toasting the detective
|
THE wind is cutting across the Ring of Brodgar as if it had
somewhere to be in a hurry. Orkney's prehistoric standing stones
offer little shelter from a wind-chill of Arctic proportions. And
there's no shelter at all for Ian Rankin, who is here to be
photographed with a glass of whisky. "Here's a quote," he says,
hunching his broad shoulders down into his coat. "Yes, it is f*****
freezing!"
Rankin is here to set in motion a year of special events and
promotions that mark the 20th anniversary of his famous fictional
detective, John Rebus. His task is to visit the award-winning
