'LaBute should make a film about a matriarchy and have done with it - it doesn't fit'

THE remake of the cult film The Wicker Man seems only to have had
the effect of bolstering the reputation of the original.
While Neil LaBute's version, starring Nicholas Cage, has been
panned by critics, the 1973 classic is more popular than ever and a
director's cut DVD has recently been released.
The situation is pleasing for Robin Hardy, who directed the
original, set amid a pagan community on a Scottish island, and co-
wrote the screenplay with Anthony Shaffer. More than three decades
later, Hardy is still in demand to talk about his cult hit. This week
