After seven years' work crofting bill 'is in tatters'

CONTROVERSIAL proposals aimed at securing the future of crofting have been "botched", the Scottish Executive was told yesterday.

MSPs were debating Stage 1 of the Crofting Reform Bill, much of which has had to be dropped following widespread criticism.

Since being launched in March, the bill has come in for fierce criticism, with many critics saying the proposed legislation is largely unnecessary and will do little to stop speculation in croft land.
