Big names and low prices prove to be recipe for Book Festival success

THE Edinburgh International Book Festival has sold almost 150,000
tickets in advance of its opening this weekend - two-thirds of the
total available.
A mix of low prices, literary celebrities and limited space in the
tents in Charlotte Square has driven a race for tickets. More than
250 events, ranging from top names to obscure foreign authors, have
already sold out.
Officials said about 65 per cent of tickets had been sold,
compared with 48 per cent at the same time last year. Tickets are
still available for more than 400 events, and turning up on the day
