SOME things - oh yes, a few - I don't pretend to understand.
Crofting legislation, for example. This does not make me a member of
a small club. Like Gaelic, the issues surrounding a tiny percentage
of Scotland's population seem to have ramifications and repercussions
well beyond the 30,000 people in crofting townships.
Much of the trouble is embodied in the quip that "a croft is a
small parcel of land surrounded by legislation". That has been true
since the original crofting act of 1886.
