Chief executive of ITV resigns amid falling ratings and poor ad revenue

THE chief executive of ITV yesterday paid for his channel's lacklustre ratings and poor advertising revenue as he stepped down from the job after two and a half years.

The announcement of Charles Allen's departure put an end to a 15- year career at Granada and ITV and came after days of speculation over his future.

Despite his key role in creating a unified ITV company from the merger of Granada and Carlton in early 2004, Mr Allen, 49, had come under pressure from City investors over poor advertising revenue and a string of programme flops like Love Island, Celebrity Wrestling and The Real ...
