Saying No To AIDS Patients; Which ones get AZT?

Thousands of AIDS patients are dying for lack of treatment. You
have a drug that might work. But it might make them worse. (There
are fates worse than certain death: some treatments make people
suffer more and die sooner.) What do you do? Do you turn the drug
loose on the market and allow the patient to choose? Or do you
restrict the drug and try to study it carefully before letting people
have it?
The question is urgent. There is a drug that we know does
something for AIDS patients, although exactly how much good, and for
