US fund giant snaps up Walter Scott

SCOTTISH equity investment firm Walter Scott & Partners is being snapped up in a surprise takeover by US fund management giant Mellon.

While neither side would comment on the price yesterday, analysts believe the cash-and-shares deal could value the business as high as dollars 500 million (GBP 265m).
