CROFTING, like Gaelic, seems to have a more powerful grip on
Scottish emotions than the numbers involved warrants. That is why so
much criticism, counter-criticism and invective is being generated by
a Scottish Executive crofting reform bill now at committee evidence
stage.
If passed, the bill would directly affect barely 30,000 people,
but many more than that have family connections or an emotional or
