Knives out for the chicken sandwich

IT IS the lunchtime bite of choice for millions of workers, but
the humble chicken sandwich is not as nutritious as it might seem and
often contains meat pumped full of added ingredients such as water,
starch and salt, according to research.
A study of more than 25 ready-packed sandwiches by the consumer
group Which? found that only one contained 100 per cent pure chicken
meat while seven contained oils added for moisture. The consumer
group is calling for food companies to amend labelling so that
shoppers realise exactly what products contain.
