Nobel's legacy to the giants of medical science
|
LAST year it was all in the nose, but today the medical community
will hear who has been the most influential contributor to the field,
when the Nobel Assembly announce the winner of the 105th Physiology
and Medicine Prize.
In 2004, the commendation fell jointly on Professor Richard Axel
of Columbia University and Linda Buck of the Professor Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research in Seattle, for their work on the
olfactory system. The pair discovered a large gene family, made up of
