U.S. Pledges Drug-Test Safeguards;False-Positive Fears Are Addressed

The government, trying to reassure federal workers that they
won't be unjustly fired because of a false positive drug test,
announced yesterday that urine samples will be subjected to
state-of-the-art chemical analysis before an employe can be turned in
for drug use.
"The military has proved that it can be done with 100 percent
accuracy," Attorney General Edwin Meese III said at a news
conference. Meese said he wanted to "debunk the myth" that "false
positive results are going to cause a vast number of federal workers
to be wrongly fired."
