Bail bandits facing longer behind bars

BAIL "bandits" - people who commit crimes while awaiting trial -
will face longer prison sentences, along with those who fail to turn
up to court, as part of a new crackdown which was unveiled yesterday.
Cathy Jamieson, the justice minister, responded to public outcry
over the number of crimes committed by people on bail by announcing a
string of new measures, which will go before MSPs next year.
Most of the proposals are aimed at toughening the penalties for
those who breach bail conditions rather than making it harder for
judges to grant bail in the first place. They include quadrupling the ...
