The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Steps Ahead; At the Kennedy Center Opera House, Garth Fagan's `Footprints'

Creating his new ballet, "Footprints Dressed in Red," for the Dance Theatre of Harlem was "wonderful mental exercise," says choreographer Garth Fagan.

"Footprints," which had its world premiere at the Florence Festival in Italy last summer, will receive its first American showing Tuesday night as DTH begins a week of performances at the Kennedy Center Opera House.

The idea for the ballet came about last year when DTH artistic director Arthur Mitchell applied to the National Choreography Project to fund a collaboration between his dancers and Fagan. Fagan, whose choreography and ...
