Grampian refuses to be consigned to history
|
THE battle lines were being drawn up last night to defend the
North-east of Scotland from an academic onslaught that is threatening
to destroy the identity and heritage of one of the country's largest
regions.
For at least five centuries the name Grampian has been synonymous
with the North-east of Scotland and its claim to contain the site of
the famous Battle of Mons Graupius in AD84, when the Roman Legions,
under the command of Agricola, defeated the Caledonian forces of
Galgacus.
