George Mason Meet Gets Off the Ground; Walker, Maree, Flynn to Run in Fairfax

Last summer, while attending a track meet in Zurich, George Mason
University track coach John Cook bumped into world-class miler John
Walker.
"Hey, John," Cook said, "why don't you come to a meet in Fairfax
next winter?"
For a decade, since the death of the University of Maryland's CYO
meet, Cook had dreamed of being able to invite world-class track and
field athletes to a Washington-area meet. He got the chance last
spring when his on-campus meet was granted Grand Prix status on a
one-year trial basis.
As it turned out, that was the easy part. The hard part was
