Like the prophets of the Old Testament, Sir Patrick Geddes was a
charismatic figure who inspired those who gathered around him with a
vision that illuminated the fundamental nature of the society in
which he lived and the issues that faced it. Prophetically too, he
really did see and say things about the way the world was going that
more than a century later grow ever more relevant. He even had a
prophet's flowing beard and fly-away hair, but he was not religious.
