Spinach sees Popeye the sailor fighting fit at 75
|
HE HAS taken enough beatings from Bluto to merit a brain scan and
chased his skinny girlfriend so hard it would have killed a man half
his age.
But Popeye had the secret of longevity ... spinach. The green
stuff, eaten by generations only because their hero espoused its
nutritional and recuperative values, proved its worth.
Popeye the sailor man, the world's toughest veggie, is 75 today.
The United States has gone Popeye-daft, and today and tomorrow the
Empire State building in New York will be bathed in a (spinach) green
light, in honour of Elzie Segar's creation.
