Shinty aiming to score tourism hit

FAST, furious, and not for the faint-hearted, shinty has been part of life in the Highlands for possibly 2,000 years. The game goes back to the roots of Gaelic Scotland with camanachd, the game of the curved stick, now part of the country's culture as well as its sporting calendar.

It could now also become a tourist attraction, with the Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board (HOST) promoting the game as part of the visitor experience to the area and Lochcarron Shinty Club in Wester Ross the first to join the board.
