If you received a compact disc player for Christmas, you've
joined the crowd.
Surging sales of the high-quality digital sound systems in the
last few weeks of 1986 helped make disc players the fastest-selling
electronic gadgets ever. Three million of the devices were sold last
year, according to the Electronic Industries Association, and the
Washington-based trade group is predicting sales of 4.25 million
units this year.
