NOT for the first time this season, supporters of SPECTROSCOPE were left thumbing their way through the Bumper Book of Excuses after the gelding had once again made himself the darling of the bookies at York last week.

A mountain of money, around GBP 62,000 in recorded bets alone, went down the plug-hole when Jonjo O'Neill's four-year-old finished nearer last than first on the Knavesmire, and as he was also a well- beaten favourite on his previous run, punters' patience must be wearing paper thin.
