IT'S not the end of world. So said Professor Colin Pillinger on Christmas Day, when Beagle 2 failed to make the electronic rendezvous which would signal its safe arrival on Mars. The whiskered pioneer put the champagne back in the fridge, but urged his team to keep their spirits up. Two hundred and 50 million miles, GBP 50 million, six years of preparation, and not so much as a squeak. Disappointing, but not the end of the world.
