Parents warned they must share responsibility for children's education

PARENTS are to be given a ministerial warning that they cannot just lump the responsibility for their children's education on to teachers.

In a hard-hitting speech, Peter Peacock, the education minister, is due to say he wants to see "a new era " in which parents play a more central role.

He wants communication between school and parents to amount to more than the "occasional parents' evening and school report."

Speaking in Dundee, Mr Peacock is to highlight moves to give parents more information and more of a say. But he warns that they have responsibilities as well as rights.
