Lib Dems: Lib Dems comforted by party's 'rock solid' showing

THE Scottish Liberal Democrats emerged from the election having delivered a "rock solid performance," Jim Wallace claimed yesterday.

It was a fair assessment by the party leader as the Lib Dems failed to achieve the gains across Scotland they had hoped for, but ended election night without suffering any net losses.

They were able to point to an impressive gain in Edinburgh South, where their candidate, Mike Pringle, inflicted a surprise defeat on Angus MacKay, the Labour candidate and a former minister for finance in the Scottish Executive.
