Rumours fly, but BP firm on North Sea role
|
AS GRAND statements go, Lord Browne's recent claim about BP and
the North Sea was a humdinger. It was also guaranteed to set tongues
wagging. BP's chief executive had just announced a major change in
the company's strategy. Explaining his decision, he said: "I cannot
stress enough how important this is for the long-term history of BP.
It is as significant in scale, capital and reserves for our future as
was the development of the North Sea and Alaska some 30 years ago."
Statements like that do not come along every day. Cue furrowed
