Arab Protests Spark Song's Withdrawal;The Cure Asks Radio Stations Not to Play Controversial 1978 Hit

The British rock group the Cure yesterday called for radio
stations to stop playing its song "Killing an Arab," an obscure
single the group said has been used by "certain reactionary elements
of the media" to fan anti-Arab sentiment in America.
The song, first released in 1978, became widely available on the
Cure's recent greatest hits package, "Standing on the Beach," which
has sold close to half a million copies in the United States. The
Elektra album is arranged chronologically, and since "Killing an
Arab" was the group's first single, it received a lot of air play,
