Slater named as likely Austin Reed predator

SLATER Menswear, the Glasgow retailer, is understood to be the
mystery bidder stalking upmarket rival Austin Reed.
Industry sources have suggested that the family-owned chain, whose
flagship store in Glasgow is in the Guinness Book of Records as the
world's largest men's fashion shop, had swooped for the London-based
business last week.
Paul Slater, who runs the business, could not be contacted
yesterday to confirm that talks had begun.
The group's assistant head, David Pierce, refused to confirm or
deny that it had made a move on Austin Reed, adding that Slater
himself would be available ...
