WHAT makes Singapore and Hong Kong such amazing city states? Is it good harbours? Is it natural resources? Is it their rich farm land?

These two staggeringly successful communities actually drew short straws in life's lottery. Hong Kong was a rock that supported only a few fishermen. Singapore was a tropical swamp avoided by the Malays. But both tiny outposts of the British Empire found magic.
