Kookaburra III Continues To Dominate Australia IV

For the second straight day, Cupholder Alan Bond's Australia IV took a pounding from Kookaburra III in trials to pick an America's Cup defender.

The 46-second loss today put Australia IV down, 0-2, heading into the third race Saturday in best-of-nine trials to pick a boat to defend the Cup that Bond won in Newport, R.I., in 1983.

Afterwards, Australia IV spokesman Vern Reid issued a fretful statement that said: "It is becoming obvious that in the wind and sea conditions experienced over the past two days we must improve . . . upwind performance."
