Editor's anger at Downing 'antics'

A LEADING journalist who led an exhaustive newspaper campaign to free Stephen Downing, has now criticised the man wrongly convicted of murder.

Derbyshire Police confirmed on Friday that, following an intensive ten-month inquiry, they were still unable to rule out Stephen Downing, 46, as the man who carried out the murder and rape of a Derbyshire typist, Wendy Sewell, in Bakewell cemetery in 1973.
