Scotland's newborn babies offered screening for cystic fibrosis

THE parents of newborn children will be offered the screening of their babies for cystic fibrosis to try to prevent the severe complications associated with the disease from developing.

The Scottish Executive announced yesterday that the checks will be offered routinely in the first few days of a child's life. The initiative precedes moves in England, where screening will come into force nationally in April next year after a series of pilot projects.
