New drive to thrash out tenancy reforms

REPRESENTATIVES of every organisation with a vested interest in
farm tenancy reform will meet at Ingliston this morning to put the
finishing touches to a united front on the Agricultural Holdings
(Scotland) Bill.
Agreement by all on the priorities of the Bill - including rents
determined according to farming economics, compensation when a tenant
leaves a farm, an obligation on landlords to at least share
maintenance costs and improved notice to quit procedures - is
expected to remove any lingering threat of the absolute right to buy,
which panicked landowners and paralysed the land market.
