Risks of breast cancer higher for twins

WOMEN who have an identical twin sister with breast cancer are four times more likely than average to develop the disease themselves, scientists claimed yesterday.

The increased risk is much higher than scientists had previously suspected, even taking account of the fact identical twins share the same genes.

Researchers at the University of Southern California studied 2,562 pairs of identical and non-identical twins with either one or two cases of breast cancer. Their rates of the disease were compared with the general population.
