Club of the Ladies Closes;Debt, Falling Membership Shut Georgetown Women's Club

The Georgetown Women's Club, formed five years ago as the old girl network's alternative to exclusive all-male clubs, has shut its doors in the face of rising debts and declining membership.

After months of holding creditors at bay and a brief attempt this fall to reorganize under Chapter 11 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the club went out of business Jan. 1, joining the Executive Club and numerous women's health clubs that have stumbled in the high-cost business of pampering the female elite.
