Heavyweight sheep is sheer woolpower

HE SHOULD have been called Rambo. But by any other name - a modest, unassuming Richard, according to his breeder John Wilson - this could be the biggest Oxford Down sheep in Britain.

Or ever. About 300lbs (136kg) is a lot of sheep and only the distorting mirror of memory suggests that the Oxford Down ram which trundled away with my father on its back, or the one which tried to drown me in the dipper, were bigger.

The smallest Oxford is a big sheep, ewes about 90kg, rams rather more. Richard is rather more again.
