FROM the mockney tones of the Naked Chef to the popularity of streetwise films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, being working class has never been so pukka.

Where once the British population would have turned their noses up at any hint of a proletarian upbringing, today, being working class is not only acceptable - it's positively cool.

The marked shift in attitudes, typified by the success of television cook Jamie Oliver - and scores of other celebrities - has been underlined in a new MORI survey which found that nearly two- thirds of British adults now claim to be working class.
