Word is out on Scots dictionary
|
WHEN Sir William Craigie withdrew to his study in 1925 to begin
compiling a dictionary of medieval Scots, it may have occurred to
him, as it did to Captain Oates on Scott's Antarctic expedition, that
he might be away some time.
It is unlikely, however, that he anticipated that the magnum opus
worked on by a number of successors would not be completed until 80
years later.
