Born: 3 November, 1931, in Bonnyrigg Died: 16 July, 2002, in Edinburgh, aged 70

ALEXANDER Forsyth - "Sandy" to his teaching colleagues - was universally respected by those who knew him during his many years of service to education.

He spent 32 years, the greater part of his working life, in the Royal High School, Edinburgh. He felt great loyalty to the school and his knowledge of its history was encyclopaedic. For 26 years, until his retirement in 1992, he was an inspirational Principal Teacher of English.
