A FEW weeks back I explained that we are living through the golden age of punting. Today I want to reflect on the golden age of television racing.

Despite the best efforts of the big layers, there is still good value to be had at horse racing starting prices in the UK. Such is the continuing competition the profit margin for bookmakers on small fields at big meetings can be as low as five per cent. In a tax-free environment such tight margins give a fair chance to the punter.
