Two Chances to Start a Career Early

Writing, as any author will tell you at the drop of a manuscript, is hard work. But while professionals can find their rewards with publication, many younger writers have only their own muse to comfort them. No matter how good a high school student's work is, few outside family and friends are likely to see it.

Two current competitions-one for teen-agers from 13 to 18, the other for youngsters from 6 to 19-are helping to expand those boundaries. And if the track to writing well is getting an early start, these and similar contests will encourage a new generation of authors.
