Snapshots: Floriade's Dutch treat for keen gardeners
|
THE Dutch embraced flower power yesterday as one of the world's
biggest horticultural exhibitions prepared to welcome an anticipated
three million visitors at a show held once a decade.
Exhibitors from across the globe have planted and pruned a
dazzling array of flowers, trees and shrubs to turn a 65-acre park
near Amsterdam into a gardener's dream called "Floriade" for the next
six months.
Floriade's water lily pond, lush valleys, tranquil lake and
swathes of flowerbeds were opened by Queen Beatrix yesterday. The
show, which opens to the public today, is expected to draw a million
visitors ...
