Housing Discrimination Law Protects AIDS Patients, Arlington Judge Rules

The Washington area's first lawsuit charging housing
discrimination against AIDS patients got a boost yesterday when an
Arlington Circuit Court judge ruled that the patients can be
considered handicapped, and therefore are protected under state law.
Judge Thomas R. Monroe rejected a motion by the defense to
dismiss the case on the grounds that AIDS patients are not covered
under the Virginia Fair Housing Law, which prohibits discrimination
against the handicapped, among others. The law does not give a
definition of handicapped.
