Cumbernauld goes from joke to World Heritage site

EVEN on a day when persistent rain and memories of recent ridicule
conspired to dampen the mood, it could not stop Cumbernauld regaining
its pride as a treasure of late 20th-century architecture. Official.
A United Nations heritage body, which identifies modern sites of
world significance, designated the town as one of the top 20 in the
UK today. It is the biggest comeback since Lazarus opened his eyes
and said: "Now, that's what I call a kip."
